Starting in the New Year, students reading at grade level will no longer receive books in their R.E.D. folders; instead they will receive fluency stories. These stories are meant to be practiced once a day to build each students fluency (the ability to read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression). Similar to the leveled books, fluencies can be brought back to school, and checked with me, once the student can read it fluently.
Students who are still progressing towards reading at grade level will still receive books at their level until they reach their goal. Your child's R.E.D. folder is a part of their nightly homework. By reading with your child, and asking questions about reading, you will promote and practice fluency and comprehension skills at home!
Sign your students log each time they are confident about a book or passage. Then they can bring their folder to school, read to me, and get new books!
